I’ve just found a fabulous new site, I say new, I think its been up a year or so but its so cool ! www.bigbuildersbum.com (bet you will never forget that name!) Its a site where tradesmen go and list themselves, creating a profile with their qualifications and work history then people who employ then through this site go back and give reviews on their work.

I never through it would be so easy to find a recommended plumber in London. Like most people nowadays I looked online first. Newspapers and the yellow pages seam so antiquated by comparison. Well this site was just so easy to use and well monitored that I trusted it almost immediately.

Its free to post a job and you can post as many as you like. The plumbers or tradesmen then send you quotes through a private internal emailing system so no need to give out my email address to all in sundry. I then read the reviews on the tradesmen’s profile pages, converse with then through the site and choose the one I want to employ. As far as I can tell there are a good few plumbers listed on there for London so I am looking forward to receiving very competitive quotes.

They list tradesman for all type of building and home improvements. Each job posted on the site (like mine) is manually checked. (Mine was up live within 15 minutes !) The tradesman and the reviews on their work are monitored too so it looks like a really honest system.

The help centre on www.bigbuildersbum.com is so refreshing. Very friendly and understandable. There are help pages outlining the whole process of posting a job (which is easy to do without any referral to the help centre) The sign up process for the plumbers or tradesmen looks very straight forward too. They only charge them £10 a month and they don’t charge commissions on the work they get through the site, which I think is very fair. That has to be cheaper than most other forms of advertising. I can see this website going very far indeed.

I have to say I am thrilled to bits at finding this site. At long last I can get the upstairs bathroom fixed by a Plummer who has independent references. The best part however is that I converse with the plumbers in my own time & through a secure system. No taking returned calls at inopportune moments !
